Anchored in reality
You know Jesus is real. You understand that he died and rose again, and that because of him your sins are forgiven and you have been promised eternal life. This is wonderful, but the problems begin when we try to explain it to ourselves, let alone to anyone else.
God doesn’t make us pass an entrance exam before he welcomes us. He receives us purely by his grace as we entrust ourselves to Jesus and give him our allegiance. We then find ourselves living in a reality we often barely understand. That is one reason we need Bible teachers.
From the earliest days of the Church, Christians recognised this. The apostles taught the first believers. Early works such as the Didache gave practical instruction in discipleship, and the great creeds gave ordinary Christians a framework for understanding and confessing their faith. Later, the catechisms began to colour in the lines the creeds had drawn.
Sadly, much of this emphasis on formation has been lost. People come to Christ and know Jesus is real, yet remain strangely adrift. They know whom they have trusted without understanding who God is, who they are, why they are here, what God is doing in the world or where creation is going.
This Learning Centre exists to help answer those questions: to help you know the God who saved you, understand the story you now find yourself in, live faithfully within it, and explain the reason for your hope to anyone who asks.
“Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” 1 Peter 3:15
